The UK has always had some rather strange titles in its top sales charts, but the last two weeks have been especially strange. The past month has seen constant fluctuation of titles among the top 20.
For two weeks in a row, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has taken the top spot from games that are far more serious in nature. Debuting this week was Prey, which has been a long time coming, but somehow got beaten by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. This is the first game to actual hold the number one spot for more than one week in well over a month.
Other AAA titles have been all over the place on the charts. Last week Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was in 8th and managed to make its way back to 4th. A couple of weeks ago FIFA 17 was in the top 4 and had stayed steady in that place for several months, but has now dropped to 8th. Ghost Recon: Wildlands was in 7th, but has now dipped to 10th. The bouncing is incredible, so to see a Mario racing game stay in first place for two weeks in a row is a miracle.
Below is a list for the top 20 UK game sales for the week ending on May 6th, 2017. As usual these are not digital sales, just retail (physical) sales:
