Ever since the new Resident Evil trailer was revealed during the PlayStation 5 reveal, it hasn’t been clear if the game has a numerical value or not. In a recent interview with Capcom, the company stated they omitted the number from the title to focus on the game’s setting.

Speaking with Famitsu (translated by Kotaku) Resident Evil Village producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Peter Fabiano were asked why the game doesn’t have a roman numeral in the title, which was featured in the trailer.

You could call the actual Village another character in the game, and we did that because we would like players to understand that.” They hope players will abbreviate the game with “Village” and not “RE8”.

That’s going to be a tough sell, especially considering Resident Evil Village is a direct sequel to Resident Evil 7 and the conclusion to its story. Ethan Winters will again be the star in Village and Chris Redfield will also be making an appearance, as the two seek to escape the creepy town filled with monsters.

Resident Evil Village is expected to launch on the Xbox Series X, PS5 and PC sometime in 2021.
