PlayStation Celebrates 500 Million Systems Sold With Limited Edition PS4 Pro

PlaySta­tion made a huge mile­stone announce­ment today. Accord­ing to Sony Inter­ac­tive Enter­tain­ment, the com­pa­ny has sold more than 525.3 mil­lion PlaySta­tion sys­tems. This does­n’t mean just PS4’s, but all the sys­tems through­out the past 24 years. 

To cel­e­brate this mile­stone, Sony is releas­ing the 500 Mil­lion Lim­it­ed Edi­tion PS4 Pro as a “thank you” to PlaySta­tion fans. This lim­it­ed edi­tion PS4 Pro will be avail­able, world­wide, on August 24th. How­ev­er, if you wish to pick one up you’d bet­ter hur­ry, there are only 50,000 units being shipped.

This PS4 Pro has a translu­cent dark blues shell with a match­ing con­troller, PlaySta­tion Cam­era, ver­ti­cal stand and mono head­set. Addi­tion­al­ly, it comes with a stock 2TB hard dri­ve. Each sys­tem will have a com­mem­o­ra­tive cop­per plate on its front, with its lim­it­ed edi­tion ser­i­al num­ber etched on.

For the lucky few who actu­al­ly obtain one of these con­soles, there are few “extra spe­cial” hard­ware units with ser­i­al num­bers that com­mem­o­rate impor­tant events in the his­to­ry of PlaySta­tion. Keep your eyes peeled for these ‘extra spe­cial’ ser­i­al num­bers like 09995 (U.S. Launch Date of the orig­i­nal PlaySta­tion – Sep­tem­ber 9th, 1995), 01115 (U.S. launch date of PS4 – Novem­ber 15, 2013) and 01013 (U.S. launch date of PS VR – Octo­ber 13, 2016). The 500 Mil­lion Lim­it­ed Edi­tion’s price is $499.99 USD (MSRP) / $639.99 CAD (MSRP). If you can’t nab one of the con­soles, PlaySta­tion is sell­ing the 500 Mil­lion Lim­it­ed Edi­tion con­troller for $64.99 and the 500 Mil­lion Lim­it­ed Edi­tion Gold Wire­less Head­set (with the translu­cent dark blue cas­ing and cop­per detail­ing) for $99.
