NieR: Automata Developer PlatinumGames Working On New IP

PlatinumGames producer Atsushi Inaba teased a new IP during a keynote at BitSummit.

Inaba described the new IP as both formless and shapeless. The only other piece of information is the confirmation that a new director will be working on this title. Inaba went on to say that he is interested to see how this new director will grow and how the new director will help PlatinumGames grow.

When this new IP will be officially announced is still unknown. Inaba said that he is unsure if the company could stick to releasing a game every year, but hinted that fans would at least have more information by the time he has a similar talk with them.

There were no further details given however some speculation can be made from last year’s BitSummit keynote. During the keynote it was said that PlatinumGames’ dream was to create and own an IP. Inaba highlighted the fact that each development studio has their own strengths and weaknesses.  However these weaknesses could be overcome by having fewer restrictions on core concepts and the freedom to make collaborations with studios they otherwise couldn’t. This new IP could very well be the game that Platinum spoke of.

The one thing we can be sure of is that PlatinumGames can refine weird and unique IPs like NieR and that the new IP won’t be Scalebound.
