Beyond Good & Evil 2 was originally announced nine years ago in 2008. Since then the game has popped up with various images and teasers, but never a proper reveal. Many speculated that the game was stuck in development hell and eventually be cancelled.
Creator Michel Ancel has now given fans new hope. In a response to a fan question on Instagram, Ancel said that Beyond Good & Evil 2 will not be at this year’s E3. However he did confirm that the game is being worked on and might be shown later this year.
“Mhhh, not sure that E3 would be the best place to showcase Bg&e2, but we’re working on the game so sometime this year, you should hear about it!”
For those wondering why the game is taking so long to develop, Ancel also explained that on Instagram in October 2016. He stated that the game had many technical issues and was large in scope. Despite having playable prototypes the game suffered from too many issues and eventually the developer moved on to develop Rayman.
“The game was playable with many prototypes. All videos where real time, but we had too much technical issues. We wanted planet exploration, space travel, cities … All this was also supposed to be in BGE 1 … Instead of not doing the game of our dreams, we decided to return to 2d, have fun with Rayman and go back at work for Beyond good and Evil 2.”
Whatever the status of Beyond Good & Evil 2 may be, the game is still in development and there is still a chance fans will get more news later this year.
