Xbox Will Be Getting Discord Integration

Xbox is finally bringing built-in Discord support, and Xbox Insiders will be the first to try it out, followed by everyone else at a later date.

Select Xbox Insiders will be able to use this Discord integration later today (July 20th). The announcement post notes it will “expand to more in the coming weeks.” Xbox Insiders currently has the release notes up, which include more specific details.

Players will be able to “chat with anyone on Discord via voice channels or group calls directly from your console making it easy to connect with friends across mobile, Xbox, and PC.”

While playing something on console, players can see who’s on with you, and who’s speaking–same as if you were using Discord on mobile or PC. You’ll be able to adjust the sound, as well as switch between Discord Voice and Xbox game chat.

The post also notes that you’ll have to re-link your Discord account to your Xbox account in order to use the service. If your talking on mobile and you touch the new option, Join on Xbox, you’ll also need the Xbox app to transfer voice chat from Discord to Xbox.

Discord support on PlayStation started earlier this year, leaving the Nintendo Switch one of the only consoles to not have adopted Discord in any form. This also means Xbox and PlayStation players will be able to talk to one another easier while player cooperative cross-play titles.

PlayStation also invested in Discord last year, though it was not a major stake in the company. The chat service appears to have no interest in being bought out, with a report circulating that Microsoft considered acquiring Discord last year for around $10 billion.
