Twitch Explains Why Yandere Simulator Is Banned

Over a year ago Yandere Simulator was banned from Twitch while the game was still in development. The developer of Yandere Simulator remained silent publicly until recently. In hopes that Twitch would respond, he made a video explaining his attempts to contact Twitch about the ban and offered some possible explanations for their actions.

Now Yandere Dev has released a video showing Twitch’s response. First Twitch explained that they did not publicly comment on the issues because it goes against their user privacy policy. They also stated that they do not review every game for approval and decide if a game should be reviewed based on reports they receive.

As for why Yandere Simulator in particular was banned, Twitch gave these reasons:

  • Two gameplay modes depicting characters in the nude.
  • A mechanic in which the player takes panty shots to use as currency for favors from others.
  • The only method of eliminating rivals is to murder them.
  • The setting, intent of gameplay, and age of victims indicate that the game is about violence against and sexual harassment of underage characters in a school setting.

Some of these reasons no longer apply to the game such as murder being the only method of elimination. All of these points can be changed before the game’s release to make the game Twitch friendly. There are also many other games that have these features and can still be streamed.

Twitch does acknowledge this within its response. They state that because these elements were apart of early development that they represent “core mechanics and themes” which differs from other games who merely contain these elements. They go on to say that they aren’t “prepared to commit to ongoing, comprehensive re-evaluations” of games still in development. Once the game is completed Twitch will review the game again.
