Reports on The Last of Us remake being in development have been ongoing for quite some time, with the latest one saying the game is scheduled to launch sometime this holiday season. It will supposedly be filling the empty schedule left behind when Starfield suffered its delay.
Jeff Grubb stated on a May 18th, 2022 episode of Kinda Funny Gamescast that he’s been “hearing that [The Last of Us remake] is coming out this year, The Last of Us remake this holiday.”
Several sources have already reported on this, so there is a good chance there is some credibility to what Grubb is saying. In a tweet back in January, Tom Henderson–a freelance writer and industry insider–first reported The Last of Us remake would release “in the latter half of 2022.” Bloomberg corroborated this with its own report in April.
A LinkedIn listing in April also hinted that Naughty Dog might actually be working on a remake for The Last of Us. The listing states “QA testing and development support + Level Point of Contact for unannounced remake project.”
The listing further mentions of an “unannounced multiplayer project,” which could indicate the unannounced remake will feature online play.
However, it is possible this listing is referring to two completely different titles. At CES 2022, Neil Druckmann teased the development team at Naught Dog is currently working on “multiple game projects” at the moment.
