Much like everything else in the world, The Last of Us Part II has been delayed because of the pandemic. PlayStation’s Twitter first announced the delay in a short tweet, Naughty Dog officially gave a statement shortly afterwards.
Essentially, the reason is the logistics of launching a game during this unprecedented time. The great challenge being to print, ship and sell physical copies. Fans of The Last of Us would likely be upset if they couldn’t get their hands on a physical copy — especially a collector edition.
However, Naughty Dog did state they were close to completing The Last of Us Part II and were in the stage of fixing final bugs. Unfortunately, even when they finish the game they can’t move forward until the logistics issues can be resolved.
They did not give a timeframe as to when they think the game would release, meaning right now it is indefinite. The Last of Us Part II was supposed to launch on May 29th, 2020.
