Developer Naughty Dog revealed more features on the remake, The Last of Us Part 1. They showed details on how the game is being redone for the PS5 and PC in a new video. Although the core gameplay will, essentially, stay the same, players can expect visual enhancements, new features, and more accessibility options.
These new features were outlined in a PS Blog post, and they include a permadeath mode, a speedrun mode, an updated photo mode, unlockable costumes for Ellie and Joel, as well as a model-viewing section.
From a technical standpoint, The Last of Us Part I can render in native 4K–targeting 30fps–or a dynamic 4K at a targeted 60fps display mode. The environments should have more realistic physics, with “bumpables and chipables” that correlates concrete and other objects being torn apart by gunfire more accurately.
The game will also benefit from updated character animations, AI upgrades that make partners avoid enemies in a more authentic manner, and seamless transitions between cinematics and gameplay.
The Last of Us Part I will have more than 60 accessibility options, as well as audio description mode. This remake will launch for PS5 on September 2nd, with a PC release date yet to be announced. Fans of the series can also look ahead to a The Last of Us multiplayer game that currently in the works.
