EA showed a trailer for Star Wars: Squadrons shortly before their EA Play event took place, but didn’t show any gameplay. They also stated they were waiting for their event to show gameplay, and they didn’t disappoint.
The new trailer included a closer look at the New Republic and Imperial Squadrons, customization options and dogfights. Mainly seen from the first-person cockpit view, those watching saw how you’ll engage in combat, your ship’s instruments and an icon of the ship with shields. Squadrons will also be playable in VR.
Players will be both the New Republic Vanguard Squadron and Imperial Titan Squadron in the campaign. According to EA, “two pilots will shape the balance of power in the galaxy.”
Multiplayer will consist of teams made up in squads of five, each containing matching ship types: Fighters (X‑Wing, TIE Fighter), Inceptors (A‑Wing, TIE Interceptor), Support (U‑Wing, TIE Reaper) and Bombers (Y‑Wing, TIE Bomber). You can customize your ships with more than 50 components like warheads, tractor beams and turrets. Other options of customization include paint jobs and decorations (like an Ewok bobblehead for you cockpit).
The official site outlines each mode and fighters, as well as a whole section for the maps.
Star Wars: Squadrons is set to release on October 2nd for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It’s currently available to pre-order now for $40.
