South Park The Fractured But Whole is here, and I spent 35 hours in the hilarious, sick, twisted and emotionally scaring town of South Park and lived to talk about it, Seriously at some points I laughed so hard I couldn’t breathe.
The Fractured but whole picks up right after the Stick of truth, you again plays as the silent new kid in an updated South Park. You embark on a journey to earn a $100 reward to fund your super hero franchise and make millions of dollars from movies and Netflix series. Fans of the show will be happy to know that the town of South Park has been updated to match the universe in the show.
Character creation is pretty basic but to me it offered plenty of customization options for the art style South Park uses. Your gender and race do impact your game play and are also chosen by you during game play. Playing as a black character will make the game harder. In The Fractured but whole the difficulty is determined by your skin color. The darker your skin — the harder South Park is on you.
Cartman will assign you a back story and ask you to select a ability class. At first you are only given a few options, but as you become stronger can have multiple ability classes.

As you progress through the game you will do mission that add information about you to your “character sheet”, information that is vital for all super heroes, your gender identity, power source and of course your kryptonite.

There are plenty of challenges that award xp and crafting supplies, they can all be tracked on your character sheet. South Park is a pretty good sized map almost every building can be entered. Most buildings contain puzzles that upon successful completion give you access to a collectible or valuable game item. Collectibles come in the form of 40 pieces of Yaoi South Park art and interactive jars or bunches of memberberries.

The Fractured but whole stays very true to the TV show. It features a wide array of characters, all voiced with a pretty good variety of dialog. The combat system has received some polish and is a pretty easy system to learn as you play and I didn’t have any problems with it during my play through.Using a grid system on the ground players are able to move square to square and attack enemies, some attacks deal knock back damage pushing the enemy away from you while others can make them bleed or lower defense. Each class has different attacks and ultimate abilities. You can change your abilities via your in game phone menu. Different buddies have different abilities during combat, you can set your team mates before each fight so you can make sure you have the best guys for the job.

Teammates are unlocked as you progress through the story and side missions, they also become available to summon during free roam to help solve puzzles, unlock doors and obtain objects.

Remember this is South Park and it is full of satire, this game pulls no punches. Horny Priest, Horny drunks at a strip club, crab people, bums — You can encounter and combat every single one of those and more while playing the Fractured but whole. The humor and story are great and keeps you engaged, The story is actually pretty long, I have done the main quest and all side quest in around 30 hours.
You earn Xp from main story and side quest as well as completing challenges listed in the titles section on your character sheet. As you explore and progress you will find artifacts and unlock new artifact slots. Artifacts give you bonuses and make you stronger, They are they only way of increasing your power level and strength.

You also unlock new DNA additions that help set you up to preform the style of play you are using. You obtain new DNA via battles and artifacts you can either buy, find, earn or craft. There is a shit load of different artifacts, that suit a ton of different play styles.
Some battles are very challenging and require a properly selected team and game plan. It took me over and hour to defeat Morgan Freeman for a trophy. The fractured but whole doesn’t really push in to crafting and you can complete the game without it because there are plenty of vendors in South Park, but you definitely shouldn’t ignore crafting.

Consumables will save your ass in some challenging battles, keep checking vendors as you level up for better recipes, and artifact blueprints.
The Bottom Line
