Sony Will Plant A Number Of Trees When Players Unlock A Trophy In Horizon Forbidden West

Sony has announced a campaign surrounding Horizon Forbidden West that will bring the gaming company to plant trees in real life to help reforestation projects around the US.

The campaign is called Play and Plant. Every time a player unlocks the “Reached the Daunt” Trophy in the game by March 25th, Sony will plant a tree. This trophy is unlocked early on in the game, so Sony should quickly reach its cap of 288,000 trees.

For the release of Horizon Forbidden West, we want to do something to help nature… with you. Just like how Aloy fights to save the Earth in the game, we can do something together to help our planet,” Sony said.

This is to support the Arbor Day Foundation and the UN’s Play4Forests campaign, which uses gaming endeavors to raise awareness about saving forests, as well as climate concerns.

The trees will be planted in three different areas within the US, including the Douglass Country Forest in Wisconsin, the Sheep Fire Private Lands in California, and the Torreya State Park in Florida. In 2020, the Sheep Fire burned more than 30,000 acres, making reforestation significantly important. Particularly, grey wolves have begun to return to the region after being hunted to near extinction.

The Douglass County Forest needs more trees to help with preserving rare plants and wildlife, while the Torreya State Park has seen natural disasters and deforestation to its longleaf pine population.
