Following the major news that Sony is purchasing Destiny developer Bungie for $3.6 billion, the gaming giant is reportedly not done making these types of massive acquisitions.
Head of Gamesindustry.biz Christopher Dring, shared in a tweet that PlayStation President and CEO Jim Ryan claims fans should be expecting further acquisitions from the company. Of course, he didn’t share further information on which publishers Sony could be preparing to acquire.
Sony’s announcement comes in rather quickly, only two weeks after Microsoft’s industry breaking buyout of Activision Blizzard. As Microsoft and Sony continue to alter the gaming universe, it seems that these companies are trying to secure as much real estate as possible for their individual platforms.
Just last year, Sony made a variety of studio acquisition, including Housemarque, Bluepoint Games, and Firesprite. They also purchased porting specialist Nixxes and co-development studio Valkyrie. Sony will likely push to make deals for studios similar to these.
