Sony Will Continue To Acquire More Studios After Bungie Buy Out

Fol­low­ing the major news that Sony is pur­chas­ing Des­tiny devel­op­er Bungie for $3.6 bil­lion, the gam­ing giant is report­ed­ly not done mak­ing these types of mas­sive acquisitions.

Head of Gamesindustry.biz Christo­pher Dring, shared in a tweet that PlaySta­tion Pres­i­dent and CEO Jim Ryan claims fans should be expect­ing fur­ther acqui­si­tions from the com­pa­ny. Of course, he did­n’t share fur­ther infor­ma­tion on which pub­lish­ers Sony could be prepar­ing to acquire.

Sony’s announce­ment comes in rather quick­ly, only two weeks after Microsoft­’s indus­try break­ing buy­out of Activi­sion Bliz­zard. As Microsoft and Sony con­tin­ue to alter the gam­ing uni­verse, it seems that these com­pa­nies are try­ing to secure as much real estate as pos­si­ble for their indi­vid­ual platforms.

Just last year, Sony made a vari­ety of stu­dio acqui­si­tion, includ­ing House­mar­que, Blue­point Games, and Fire­sprite. They also pur­chased port­ing spe­cial­ist Nixxes and co-devel­op­ment stu­dio Valkyrie. Sony will like­ly push to make deals for stu­dios sim­i­lar to these.
