Jim Ryan, the President and CEO of Sony, announced a new initiative today titled Play At Home. Right now, they are offering free games to help the PlayStation community continue to be entertained while they’re stuck at home.
From April 15th to May 5th, PlayStation owners can claim Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey, for free. This is to thank all this who are practicing the necessary social distancing by staying home. In Germany and China, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection will be replaced by Knack 2.
Ryan stated that Play At Home has two components: providing free games and establishing a fund to help smaller independent game studios who may be experiencing financial difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The free games appear to be the only free titles they’ll be giving away, both were featured as free games for PlayStation Plus members a while back. It was not specified if there would be more titles made free later on, but if the pandemic keeps going it will be more than likely.
On the funding front, Ryan shared they’ve “embarked $10 million” to support their independent development partners. More information about the fund will be available soon.
