The news comes from Game Biz who received word from Sony. Guerrilla Cambridge the developers of VR game RIGS: Mechanized Combat League will be closed downed.

The studio has been operating for 19 years. Most notably they created one of the few fully featured Virtual reality games. They have also worked on other titles like Killzone Mercenaries, MediEvil and Primal. Locally they were known for working with universities to bring in new faces to the gaming industry.

Sony stated that the Guerrilla Studio branch was shut down because “it is necessary to make some changes to the European studios structure”. In the same statement Sony made clear that Cambridge delivered “incredible games and services.” and that their closing does not take away that.

Many of the developers will be moved to other project where possible. Others will likely try to find work with other UK developers. Sony will assist these developers by speaking with local studios about recruitment.

Other studios have not been affected by this closing according to Sony.  They also state that their focus on new projects or virtual reality games has not changed and believe they will be in a better position to deliver them.
