Sonic Superstars, A Retro Throwback With Co-Op, Shown At Summer Game Fest

Announced during the Summer Game Fest, Sonic Superstars is the next entry for the iconic series. The game features a much smoother 3D art style, but with the classic Sonic 2D gameplay. Up to four players can join in, taking control of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or Amy. Each character has their own associated ability, like Amy’s hammer and Knuckles’ climbing skills.

The trailer showed a number of environments like a pixelated realm, a jungle with ridable vines, and an area that resembles Green Hill Zone. Sonic has also gained some the ability to ascend waterfalls with a water power-up, with more 3D environments that allow the use of a grapple hook. The game will also include bonus stages from the original games, where players will control a pinball Sonic in block based courses.

The trailer announced that Sonic Superstars will be releasing in Fall 2023. Right now you can sign up on the official website to get an exclusive Amy skin. The base game will cost $60.
