Campaign co-op and a new survival mode are heading to Returnal shortly. Announced during Sony’s latest State of Play livestream, Returnal: Ascension is the latest expansion to join the rouglike, adding new elements of challenge to the shooter. The update is expected to release on March 23rd and will be free for all players.
PlayStation says Returnal: Ascension features a robust campaign co-op mode that allows you to “share your entire journey through the shifting labyrinth of Atropos with another player.” Additionally, the update also brings The Tower of Sisyphus–an ascending gauntlet of increasingly dangerous phases, with each containing twenty floors.” Once entering the tower, players will have to eliminate all enemies on each floor before being able to advance to the next one. Of course, don’t expect a cake walk on even the easiest of floors.
While the new cooperative mode will take some of the burden off the game’s notoriously demanding campaign, Housemarque made it clear friends won’t be able to help you in The Tower of Sisyphus of the game’s Challenge Mode.
