After being previously leaked, Life is Strange: Before the Storm has been officially announced at Microsoft’s E3 press conference. The first of three episodes will launch August 31st for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
Unlike the first game and the upcoming sequel, Life is Strange: Before the Storm will not be developed by Dontnod. The newly re-branded Deck Nine Games will be responsible for development. Although they haven’t created narrative focused games before, Dontnod reassures fans that Deck Nine has the talent and ability to create the game. Deck Nine has even built the new Skyforge tools specifically for narrative driven games.
In a surprising turn of events Chloe’s original voice actor Ashley Burch will be working on the game, but not as a voice actor. Burch will actually be one of the writers for the game and will be writing dialogue for the 16 year old Chloe. Rhianna DeVries will now take on the role of the young Chloe.
Dotnod has also announced a bonus “Farewell” episode only available to those who purchase the Deluxe Edition of the game. The bonus episode will remain a prequel, but will have Max as the playable character and remain a standalone episode released after the full game. Dontnod addressed any fans worried about missing a part of the story by stating the following,
“Rest assured, anyone purchasing the complete season of Before the Storm will get the full story. Max’s ‘Farewell’ episode really is just a bonus episode for those who would like to play as her one final time.”
