Today, Niantic announced that Pokémon Go would be celebrating the global Water Festival, by giving players a higher chance to encounter water-type Pokémon.
The celebration for the Water Festival starts today at 1 p.m., PDT time, and ends on March 29th at 1 p.m. PDT. For the next week, players will see an increase in Magikarp, Squirtle, Totodile, and all of their evolutions, around the whole world.
Along with the encounter increase of these specific Pokémon, there will be a greater chance of seeing several different types of Water-type Pokémon, which are originally found in the Johto region. You will get this heightened chance only around water areas. You might even see a Lapras, which is one of the hardest water Pokémon to find.
Also today, Niantic added another avatar wardrobe item: a Magikarp Hat. There is no picture of the hat, but once we get one we will update as soon as possible.
