Obsidian Entertainment started crowdfunding for Pillars of Eternity 2 two days ago and has already completed its 1.1 million goal. This was done in just over 22 hours. Due to being funded on fig, much of the money comes from people who invested into the game rather than just pledging money.
Following the game being successfully funded, the fig page was updated with thanks from Obsidian and information on the 1.4 million stretch goal. Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhard had this to say to fans,
“We. Are. Funded! Thanks to the support of all of our backers, investors, and our wonderful community, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire has achieved and then exceeded its funding goal in less than 24 hours, exceeding all of our expectations. Our fans are the best in the world, and it’s thanks to you that we’re able to make games we love. Thank you so much, sincerely.”
The first stretch goal at 1.4 million has just been funded. This will enable Obsidian to include sub classes to the game. One example of a subclass is the Ghost Hearts. These are Rangers whose animal companion has died, but remains as spirit to aid during combat. These animal spirits will also have different properties to regular animals such as being immune to Beast Charm. The exact number of subclass is still unknown, but they will be in the game.
The next two stretch goals at 1.6 million and 1.8 million were announced today. At 1.6 million the game will be localized into Russian and the level cap will be raised from 16 to 18. This means that all classes will gain new abilities.
At 1.8 million Obsidian will localize the game into Polish and include a new companion. Xoti (pictured above) is described as a “meadow folk/savannah folk priest/monk”. She is a follower of Gaun and grew up on a farm in Deadfire after her family fled from the Saints’ War. Later she hears rumors of Eothas’ manifestation, but fears what it means for other immigrants. She will be the 7th Deadfire companion.
Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire has raised 1.4 million and has until February 24 to continue crowdfunding money. The game has no release date, but will launch for PC, Max and Linux.
