Outlast 2 Has Been Banned in Australia by the Ratings Board

Outlast ΙΙ, the upcoming horror sequel has been rated too much for Australian players, as their rating board has completely banned it.

Reported by Kotaku Australia, Outlast ΙΙ has not even been classified by the Australian game ratings board. This means it will be ineligible for release in the country at all, because it has no approval rating. Australian government’s Classification Board explained Outlast ΙΙ was certified to:

depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified.”

The most explicit reasoning for ban was “the depiction of implied sexual violence.” The board also stated that without the depiction of  implied sexual violence, the game would be eligible for an R18+ rating.

Although the board stated this was not “an exhaustive list of the content that caused” the ban to placed, Red Barrel (devs of Outlast) can still make it happen. Of course, they would have to modify, alter, and remove some of the game’s explicit content and re-submit the game for certification (so players get less of the game..nice).
