No Man’s Sky Update 1.3 Includes Multiplayer & More: Full Patch Notes Here

No Man’s Sky received a huge update today, which was announced a few days ago, with its full patch notes revealed today. Hello Games has titled this update Altas Rises and it includes many new additions to the space exploration title.

Update 1.3 includes a bunch of significant improvements, including over 30 hours of new story, mission system, trade improvements, system economies, a “version” of multiplayer, and plenty more.

Multiplayer was a requested feature for No Man’s Sky, which is just now being implemented, sort of. Up to 16 players can see and communicate with one another, and “explore the universe” together. VOIP (Voice over IP) allows proximity based voice chat with nearby explorers. You can also use portals to quickly travel to friends, or populated planets.

NPC guilds have been added each with objectives that give standings for that guild. Build up the standings for these guilds to unlock more difficult and rewarding objectives. Also, visit the new Mission Agent in Space Stations to pick up new tasks. Missions are constantly generated and cater to all playstyles (scanning, trading, combat and exploration). This all ties in with the upgrades to economy, trading, and crafting system.

Terrain editing is now available with an item called the Multi-Tool. You can add or remove the landscape around you as you see fit, anywhere on the planet. You can choose from a number of materials, shapes, and sizes. Visuals were also enhanced like NPC interactions, and environments getting high resolution textures.

Portals were also introduced as a means of fast travel to planets you have previously visited. You need to “learn the language” of portals by unlocking mysterious glyphs while traveling the universe. Interact with the portals and input a specific combination of glyphs to travel to a specific planet. You can share combinations of glyphs with the community to help other travels faster.
