Nintendo has sen out a list of differences between the Switch and the Wii U versions of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to various websites such as GameSpot and IGN.

  • Both launch on the same day, March 3.
  • Both have a frame rate of 30 FPS.
  • Both versions of the game offer the same content.
  • On a TV, the Nintendo Switch version of the game renders in 900p while the Wii U version renders in 720p.
  • The Nintendo Switch version has higher-quality environmental sounds. As a result, the sound of steps, water, grass, etc. are more realistic and enhance the game’s open-air feel.
  • The physical copy of the Wii U version will require 3 GB of available memory on the Wii U system or an external drive.
  • Some icons, such as on-screen buttons, differ between the two versions.
  • A Special Edition and Master Edition of the Wii U version are not available.

These details confirm previous statements from Nintendo that said both versions will remain largely the same. A thing to note is the Switch version is only 900p on the TV, the portable screen’s max display is 720p. Also one difference not mention is that the Master and Special Edition of the game will only be on the Switch.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild launches March 3 alongside the Nintendo Switch.
