In a surprise announcement Nintendo confirmed that Metroid Prime 4 is in development. Metroid Prime 4, according to IGN, will not be developed by Retro and will instead be developed by a new development team overseen by series producer Kensuke Tanabe.
Right now there are no other details, but the news is being well received after all fans of series have waited over 10 years for this game.
Nintendo also announced the 3DS game Metroid: Samus Returns. Unlike Prime 4, Metroid: Samus Returns launches this year on September 15th.
The game will be a reimagining of the classic Metroid II: Samus Returns and developed by MercurySteam.
During the Nintendo Treehous Live Stream more details about the gameplay were revealed. Samus can now aim in full 360 degrees, she’ll be able to perform melee counters, and will gain new abilities not related to her suit. These “Aeion abilities” will be limited by her energy meter, but will offer great benefits such as being able to scan for hidden paths and items.
There will be a special edition of the game that includes a soundtrack of music from the entire series and a reversible cover. An Amiibo of Samus in her Metroid II cover pose and an Metroid Amiibo will be released.
