New World Valentine’s Day Cosmetics Removed After Bugs Causing Server Crashes Pops Up

Amazon Games’ MMORPG New World has seen a great deal of game-breaking issues since its launch, but something as innocuous as Valentine’s Day cosmetics shouldn’t be cause for serious server-crashing bugs. However, this isn’t the case.

Just a few short hours after the Valentine’s Day-themed cosmetics went on sale yesterday in New World, Amazon removed them from the store–even to the confusion of some players. Come to find out, the skins have the potential to cause server crashes, although Amazon states that players who did purchase the skins should still be able to use them. The cosmetics will return to the store once a fix can be implemented. =

This is far from the first incident of a game-breaking bug to arrive to New World and it will likely not be the last. Since the game’s September 2021 launch, Amazon has shut down the player-driven economy multiple times to investigate a number of item and duplication glitches, addressed a bug that was making players invincible, fixed time-traveling servers to save the economy and settlements, and more. While most of these bigger issues were fixed quickly, it’s still a common event anytime New World goes through a new update.

Amazon announced New World would not be getting any new content in February, with the team opting to focus on delivering quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes for the game’s next update. In a developer update, the Amazon team stated it learned it needed to give updates on the game’s PTR (public test realm) more time so potential serious bugs and glitches can be found by players before it reaches the global market.

New World recently received new endgame content in the form of Mutated Expeditions, which allows players to take on harder versions of the game’s higher-level dungeons in exchange for better rewards.
