It’s been over a week since the launch of New World, Amazon Game’s MMO recently received it’s first update. This update largely focuses on bug fixes, but did lay the groundwork for character transfers. There was also some small quality of life fixes as well.

Changes to game’s AFK detection system have been made in order to ensure players don’t stay AFK on high population servers with long queue times. If players remain on the server in an AFK state for 20 minutes, they will automatically be disconnected (reduced from 25). The game also now can also better detect those attempting to trick the game’s AFK detection with simulated mouse movement.

Long queue time were a serious issue during New World’s first few days, but this has greatly improved with the introduction of new servers and increased server capacity. Players will now see a confirmation screen when trying to leave a queue, ensuring no one accidentally drops from their spot.

The game’s first patch laid the groundwork for free server transfers for your character, which was announced shortly after New World’s launch. Players were likely creating characters on a server they didn’t intend to be on, just to avoid long queue lines. So Amazon gave players the option to pick a new place for their characters with the server transfers.

New World 1.0.1 Patch Notes

GENERAL

We’ve implemented the groundwork for the character server transfer, and you may see elements of that work in the in-game store. We’re continuing to work on this feature, and will have more information on how the system works later this week when we release server transfers.

WAR

Changed turret projectiles in War from physical projectiles to use hitscan detection. This should help performance in War, with fewer objects being spawned in the world.

AFK PREVENTION

In an effort to ensure players can’t stay AFK, especially in higher population servers, we’ve made the following adjustments to the AFK prevention system.

  • Added additional AFK prevention to ensure players cannot fool the existing system with simulated mouse movement.
  • Shortened the AFK warning message from 20mins to 15mins.
  • Shortened the AFK disconnect from 25mins to 20mins.
WORLD QUEUE

We added a confirmation screen when a player attempts to leave the queue for a world, asking the player to confirm if they’re intending to leave the queue. This should help ensure nobody accidentally leaves the queue and misses out on their spot in line.
