It’s been years since Naughty Dog confirmed it was working on a new multiplayer game set in The Last of Us universe. Now, some new details on this standalone multiplayer title has been unveiled. VGC noticed new job listings at the studio that mentioned “Naughty Dog’s newest adventure” and how the studio wants to apply its focus on quality into this multiplayer game.

Embark on Naughty Dog’s newest adventure–the studio’s first standalone multiplayer game! We’re seeking to bring the same level of ambition and quality of our signature, story-driven games to this unique multiplayer project,” read part of the job description for a gameplay scripter. “This is a rare opportunity to make an impact in your discipline and craft an experience that will be enjoyed and shared by millions of players around the world.”

A job listing for level/environment designer for the project includes the same description.

Naughty Dog did confirm back in 2019 that The Last of Us: Part II would not launch with a new version of the Factions multiplayer mode. However, they did say at the time that a standalone within The Last of Us universe was being created. While these new job ads did not mention The Last of Us by name, it seems likely based on the timeframe.

It’s still a mystery as to when any information about Naughty Dog’s new multiplayer might be announced, especially since Sony is not attending E3 again.
