Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been confirmed to be arriving later this year, but the official reveal date has yet to be seen–with Infinity Ward likely release it soon. It appears that folks just can not keep the excitement contained, as more leaks and rumors are surfacing on an upcoming reveal.
A recent report suggests that Activision’s official unveil announcement for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is set for June, while the game’s multiplayer beta could arrive as early as August.
On May 18th, TheMW2Ghost–a Call of Duty leaker notable for claims in the past–tweeted that they’ve seen the upcoming map they think will be used for both Warzone 2 and the rumored DMZ mode coming to Modern Warfare 2. This mode is suggested to be inspired by the Escape from Tarkov. TheMW2Ghost shared a simple map layout on Twitter, which they claim is a drawn remake based on the actual image of the map.
The leaker’s drawn image doesn’t have any clarifying detail, but does reveal a large river running through the length of the map, with a lake to the east. A few padlock and weapon icons are also marked, but it’s unknown what they specifically represent.
On May 17th, YouTuber NerosCinema potential leaked details about Warzone 2 on his channel, where he claimed there will be adjustments to how loadout drops work for the sequel. While they will remain in the game, NerosCinema believes obtaining one will change when a new feature called Strongholds is introduced. The loadouts will be locked behind a Stronghold, and players must complete a number of tasks to gain access to their loadout. Normal ground loot will still be available, but the leak suggests Strongholds are the only way for players to unlock their custom loadouts in Warzone 2.
So there is a possibility that padlocks on the map drawn by TheMW2Ghost could potentially be marking Stronghold locations. NerosCinemas leaks were corroborated by journalist and leaker Tom Henderson. . “I’m not going to beat around the bush, but a lot of this is true,” Henderson stated on Twitter. “I’m assuming there are some discrepancies because the source can’t remember exact details… But yeah, leak overload inbound, it seems.”
It’s also being rumored that Warzone 2 will be more along the lines of Black Ops 4’s Blackout and Modern Warfare 2019’s Warzone. Of course, all rumors should be taken lightly since nothing has been officially announced as of yet.
