Square Enix has announced that it is developing Kingdom Hearts IV, the next entry in the long-running Disney RPG Series. The new came as part of a 20th-anniversary celebration event, which included the release of the first trailer, which you can check out below.
Kingdom Hearts IV kicks off a new storyline for the franchise, with Sora returning, through you’ll see in the trailer that he’s looking a bit different. The actually portion of the trailer that contains KHIV begins on the 4:07 mark:
The trailer showcases some quick glimpses of gameplay with Sora fighting against a giant shadow monster in the center of a city street. The new location is called Quadratum, which Square Enix has described as a “large, expansive city set in a gorgeous, realistic world unlike anything ever seen before” in the Kingdom Hearts universe.
No more details were shared on Quadratum or the overall gameplay or story. Donald and Goofy will also be returning to KHIV, along with a new,“mysterious” character named Strelitzia.
There’s no word on what platforms KHIV will be available on, although Kingdom Hearts 3 was eventually released for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Alongside word of the next core entry in the series, Square Enix used the anniversary event announced a new mobile game called Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link for iOS and Android, which was also shown in the trailer montage.
