Sony’s Gran Turismo title for the PlayStation 5 won’t be releasing this year, as was partially suspected. PlayStation has confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 is now scheduled to release in 2022, due to challenges related to COVID-19.

A spokesperson told GQ that “critical aspects” of the development of Gran Turismo 7 have been impacted by the pandemic, though the representative didn’t share any details.

GT7 has been impacted by COVID-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022. With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months. We’ll share more specifics on GT7’s release date when available.”

GT7 is just the latest big-name game to hit a snag with its release due to production issues related to the virus. RPG Hogwarts Legacy has also been pushed to 2022, and the new Vampire game was delayed to 2022 this week as well.

Gran Turismo 7 was announced back in June 2020 during the PS5 reveal event. It was’t given any release date, but people believed it would be 2021. The game is going for 4K/60FPS on PS5, but that’s pretty much all anyone knows about this game.
