Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and if you are much like me, and are sick of hearing about it, then play some Gears of War 4. They have a decent update with a new event and some new maps.
Valentine’s Event
Starting yesterday until February 20th, the return of Torque Bow Tag mode have arrived. It is a mode where players have a special Torque Bow (that is pink of course) and when its arrows come in contact with an enemy become a heart, also producing a sound. How magical!! There is a video below if you wish to check it out for yourself.

New Maps
Impact Dark
This is just a redesigned version of Impact, which has obviously been made with lower visibility. There are some twist though, including smoke that also reduces your ability to see, forcing you to get closer to the combat. Weapon swaps have been changed — Snipers are now replaced with Boltloks, Dropshot replaced with Torque/EMBAR and the Overkill now sits where Incendiaries used to be.
War Machine
This map is back and has had a settings change from its classic abandoned train station locale. Instead, it is now set in a new COG Settlement, stated as “standing out with its pristine appearance and gleaming grandiose features.” Compared to the original, this map shows signs of life. Despite the setting, the map is laid out exactly as it was before. Be prepared for the fight over the Sniper, the fight for the Torque near the pillars, and the turret for all those poor folks who are silly enough to wander into the open.
Guardian Improvements
From fan feedback, they have decided to change the original spawn spawn to something different. It’s called Leader Spawns. Instead of swap spawns, you will spawn closer to your leader, hopefully giving you a tactical edge. Leaders now need to position themselves in beneficial areas of the map, so other players have more opportunity to come to their Leaders aid.
Mystery Pack
Also starting yesterday, Mystery Gear Packs are available for purchase (costs 2,000 Credits/$5.00) and includes previous Feature and Community Packs. They are 5‑card Gear Packs that can include the following:
- UIR Elite and UIR Characters / Weapon Skins
- Onyx Gold Characters and Weapon Skins
- Gary Carmine and 10th Anniversary Weapons
- Gearsmas Weapon Skins
Looking Forward
The Coalition also announced some of what is to come for the next update in March. A pre-game lobby system for Core and Competitive playlists to improve the ranked experience, will in fact be coming next month. They also stated they will be working on Legacy Characters starting next month, which will include their voice work and character fidelity.
The team also provided a small list of what you could expect for this summer:
- New “Inconceivable” Difficulty (Campaign & Horde)
- IronMan Mode (Campaign & Horde)
- Level 6 skills for all class skills
- More skills for existing classes
- New achievements
