The popular free-to-play portal shooter Splitgate is heading to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Developer 1047 Games said during a developer Q&A that the upgrades will be “obvious.”
The studio responded to some questions after playing a few rounds with streamer YourRage. Towards the end of the livestream, the team was asked if the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S would get enhancements.
“We’re going to do it,” 1047 Games CEO Ian “CardinalSoilder” Proulx stated. “I’m not ready to share any specifics, but there’s some obvious things that pretty much every game is doing that we will explore doing. We intended to have the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions out already. It’s just been a matter of having 110% focus on servers as much as possible.”
It’s unknown the specific enhancements Splitgate will get when it does come to the PS5 and Series X|S, but 4K and 120fps were tossed about during the stream. Additionally, a release date for these upgraded port was not mentioned.
Also during this stream, 1047 Games stated they would be increasing server capacity, as well as kicking players who remain idle for at least 30 minutes. This is to free up space for others to get into the game.
The game has been available in early access since 2019, but Splitgate has only recently taken off. Splitgate has become so popular its servers are struggling to keep up. Long wait times and other issues should be fixed with the addition of more servers.
