Electronic Arts Has Stopped Selling Games And Content In Belarus And Russia

EA has announced it will stop all sales–from games, DLC, and vir­tu­al currency–in Rus­sia and Belarus. The Russ­ian store­front on Ori­gin and the EA app are essen­tial­ly paused, and the com­pa­ny is also work­ing with oth­er plat­forms to remove EA games and stop new in-game sales in Rus­sia and Belarus.

“Our pri­ma­ry con­cern is the ongo­ing safe­ty of those in the region, par­tic­u­lar­ly col­leagues and part­ners, and we are seek­ing to under­stand how we might best help them fur­ther beyond our pro­grams that are already in place,” EA said.

This new announce­ment fol­lows EA’s pri­or deci­sion to remove all Russ­ian teams from FIFA 22 and NHL 22 games.

CD Pro­jekt and Bloober Team have both stopped sales in Rus­sia and Belarus as well. Belarus is allied with Rus­sia, thus the rea­son it’s becom­ing a tar­get of these sanc­tions. Microsoft also recent­ly threw it’s hat into the ring, say­ing it will “sus­pend all new sales of Microsoft prod­ucts and ser­vices in Russia.”

EA fin­ished it’s announce­ment with a promise to mon­i­tor the sit­u­a­tion. As this deeply trou­bling sit­u­a­tion evolves, we’re con­tin­u­al­ly review­ing the steps we can take… We are active­ly eval­u­at­ing oth­er areas of our games and oper­a­tions, and will update with any fur­ther actions,” EA said.
