EA finished this year at E3 with some surprises and it was quite a show for them. Much better than the previous year. We learned of Battlefield 1 content, a brand new IP from BioWare, got more info on games like “A Way Out”, Madden 18, and Star Wars: Battlefront 2.
BioWare’s New IP: “Anthem”
That’s right, the nice people over at BioWare have finally revealed what they have been working so hard on (probably what caused Mass Effect: Andromeda to be such a train wreck). It is titled Anthem and is a brand new IP for the studio. More will be told about the game during the Microsoft press conference on Sunday, but you can read more about Anthem and see a trailer, here.
Star Wars: Battlefront 2
Star Wars: Battlefront 2 did not get as much info as was expected. This might have been due to the pre E3 leak of the Battlefront 2 gameplay. You can see a short gameplay trailer for Star Wars below, it shows off well known characters and new ones like Chewbacca, Yoda, and Kylo Ren.
The game will also have a single-player campaign where you play as a TIE fighter pilot. Finn and Captain Phasma will be part of a free DLC post launch.
Battlefield 1 Night Maps and Russian Details
Although shooters seem to losing their grip in the gaming industry, there are still plenty of gamers who enjoy Battlefield 1. So it is no surprise EA would announce new maps and some DLC details during E3. This summer, the title will be seeing two new maps featured during the night.
The important info was the expansion titled “In the Name of the Tsar.” It is a rather large DLC, adding 6 new maps, the Russian Army, new weapons, new vehicles, and player progression through new assignments and specialization. In the Name of Tsar comes in September.
Finally, EA announced they would be discussing competitive Battlefield 1 during Gamescom.
Madden 18 Getting A Story Mode
This will be the first time in 29-years the Madden franchise has ever had a story mode. It is designed to be a playable movie, according to the devs.
Need for Speed Payback — Heist mode
EA showed the one of many clones that are Need for Speed. This has slight modifications, including heist missions and a Relic System, which modernizes classic cars for the game. You can see more on this game and a trailer, here.
FIFA 18 On Nintendo Switch
While FIFA 18 was previously announced and we already knew it was coming to the Nintendo Switch, Today at EA Play, they gave us some FIFA Switch specific Info.
One big change is that it will not being using The Frostbite 2 engine or will it feature Journey 2 story mode. It will feature all other modes like, Ultimate Team, local seasons, career, online seasons, tournament, women’s international cup and all other modes included in the standard game.
EA confirmed that FIFA 18 will run in 1080 while in docked mode and in 720p while in handheld mode. They say the players look more realistic because of a new rendering system but I am not convinced. Below is the trailer for FIFA 18 when it was announced.
A Way Out
Hazelight, a new studio created by the writer/director of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, has come up with an interesting concept for its first game. Its called “A Way Out”, but this game is only played in co-op and you start by breaking out of prison. See more on that here.
