As seen on Twitter today, though on Battlefield 1’s website, producer Andreas Skoglund announced a new and awesome addition to Battlefield 1.
It is titled Premium Friends, and allows players who have the Battlefield 1 Premium Pass will be able to bring friends along with them on the new maps. This will start tomorrow on March 30th, so if you hold a Premium Pass you may notice your party will become “Premium Enabled”. This will actually allow anyone in that party who does not have the pass access to all the maps.
However, this does not grant all access to everything, Battlefield 1 Premium Pass members still have exclusive experiences through the pass. These include:
- In a “Premium Enabled” party, only owners of a Battlefield 1 Premium Pass or the specific expansion pack will earn XP from the maps exclusive to that expansion. We will save the XP for everyone else and grant them retroactively if they decide to get the Battlefield 1 Premium Pass for themselves.
- Only owners of a Battlefield 1 Premium Pass or the specific expansion pack will be able to spawn in with weapons and vehicles unique for the expansion.
- Only owners of a Battlefield 1 Premium Pass or the specific expansion pack will track progress towards the unique medals and codexes for the expansion.
This is only a test run, but was implemented because of the feedback from the players. DICE expects, and wants, to hear plenty of feedback from everyone on the Premium Friends. Hopefully, this will create a sort of shock wave, making other multiplayer games realize how important it is to be able to play with your friends. Though it is a test period, they will most likely make changes or remove it altogether.
