Behaviour Interactive, the studio behind Dead By Daylight, announced on January 3rd it intends on removing a cosmetic skin for The Cannibal (known as Leatherface). The mask in question is being removed following reports that some players have been dealing with in-game racism because of it.
A two-part developer update posted on Monday outlined a number of changes coming to the survival game, as well as addressing the reported harassment. “Members of the community have shared their experiences with people targeting and harassing them while using some of these masks. These reports were disheartening to hear, and we absolutely condemn this behaviour,” the studio clarified in this update.
The result is not too shocking, as the Leatherface survivor mask will be removed by the release of the Mid-Chapter update. This cosmetic would allow players to wear the faces of survivor characters in Dead by Daylight, of which Claudette Morel is a part of, who also happens to be a Black woman. Behaviour Interactive did state they, “will not tolerate hateful activity and will continue to take every step necessary to protect the community.”
