Bioware Explains Why Paragon And Renegade Options Are Gone In Mass Effect Andromeda

Mass Effect’s Paragon and Renegade choices are not going to be in the upcoming Mass Effect Andromeda.

Creative Director Mac Walters explained why in an interview with GamesRadar. Walters stated that the paragon and renegade choices “were very tied to the Shepard character, so they didn’t really make sense if we weren’t going to have Shepard as our protagonist”.

Dialogue choices will be based more on “agreeing and disagreeing”. Rather than just defaulting to paragon or renegade, player will agree or disagree depending on the circumstances. Walter believes that this change will have players “actually be more engaged in what’s going on” when making choices.

Walter added that roleplaying in Mass Effect Andromeda will be more about players asking how they wish to express themselves rather than just deciding to be good or evil. Players will specifically be able to choose from four tones and “sometimes one of two different ways” to express themselves during dialogue. What tones are chosen will also determine the way other characters respond to the player.

More information about dialogue choices and these four tones will be revealed in the future according to Walters.

Mass Effect Andromeda launches March 21st on PS4, Xbox One and PC
