Developer DICE has officially teased the next battlefield game, which will be announced “soon.” DICE general manager Oskar Gabrielson said in a blog post that the new Battlefield is currently being developed by the “biggest Battlefield development team ever.”
The game, whatever it name ends up being, will be released across console and PC this holiday season. While this is just a soft release date, at least it gives a timeframe as to when we can expect to see more information. Gabrielson went on to tease that this game will offer a “return to all-out warfare.”
DICE’s main team in Sweden are currently working on the title, with additional support from the office in Los Angeles, alongside Criterion. Additionally, EA’s team in Gothenburg is working on the technology components of the new title.
“Working with more world-class development studios within Electronic Arts, we have our biggest team ever on a Battlefield game for console and PC,” Gabrielson said. “Our friends at Criterion and DICE LA are working with us on our shared vision for the game, while the team in Gothenburg is taking technology in the game to the next level. Together, we are creating a jaw-dropping experience for you to enjoy later in 2021.”
The new Battlefield game is in the playtesting phast as of now. This includes testing on a daily basis, as well as polishing and balancing efforts that aim help make the game the “best possible Battlefield.”
“I can tell you it is a bold step. It has everything we love about Battlefield–and takes all of it to the next level. Epic scale. All-out military warfare. Crazy, unexpected moments,” Gabrielson said. “Game-changing destruction. Massive battles, packed with more players and mayhem than ever before. All brought to life with the power of next-gen consoles and PCs.”
Reports hav suggested that Battlefield 6 won’t be available for PS4 and Xbox One, so that last statement is interesting to say the least. The new Battlefield game was announced in October 2019 and at that time, publisher EA sais the game would launch in the company’s fiscal year 2022. This runs from April 2021 to March 2022.
Electronic Arts stated they were releasing Battlefield 6 in 2021 instead of 2020 because the PS5 and Xbox Series X would have a smaller install base after just being released. “Bringing out Battlefield [in 2020], where the new console base is fairly small, doesn’t really give justice to the potential of the title, and so that’s part of our driver in moving the title into fiscal 22.”
It is unknown if Battlefield 6 will be released on PS4 and Xbox One.
