EA has made a change to Battlefield 2042’s standard edition to help make the transition from one console generation to another easier, at least that’s the plan. The game’s digital standard edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S now comes with cross-gen support, allowing you to access the PS4/Xbox One version as well.
The gaming giant made this adjustment because they recognize “next-gen hardware is still hard to come by” as the ongoing console shortage continues.
“We want as many Battlefield fans as possible to start the journey with us on day one, and we want to give those players the peace of mind that their progress carries over if they get a new system this holiday season, or beyond,” EA DICE said in a blog post.
This offer is only available for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S digital versions of Battlefield 2042. If you plan on purchasing a new console soon, consider buying the this digital edition of the game, since it comes with access to both editions. Keep in mind that the PS5/ Xbox Series X|S digital version of Battlefield 2042 costs $70 instead of $60 for the PS4/Xbox One edition.
Before this adjustment, you needed to buy the Gold or Ultimate editions of Battlefield 2042 to get access to this cross-gen offer. A FAQ about this change gives further details, and mentions this offer only applies to the digital standard edition of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S–not the physical version. The cross-gen offer only applies within the same console family.
