AMD announced an expansion on its GPU offerings with a new graphics card at the CES 2022 event. Although this GPU might not be of interest for anyone with 4K monitor, the new AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT is just another solution for 1080p gaming.
According to AMD, the small GPU can withstand a boost clock of 2.6GHz and comes with 16 compute units and ray accelerators, as well as 16MB of infinity cache. However, this doesn’t mean it’s high-end performance.
This GPU is targeted at those who are willing to play in 1080p. AMD is also claiming that the 6500 X, which come with 4GB of GDDR6 can beat Nvidia’s GTX 1650 (in most situations) by 35%. It’s unclear what testing was done to obtain that statistic, including whether or not the GPU benefits from AMD’s Smart Access Memory technology.
The 6500 XT’s product page boasts that the GPU can make modern games run at over 60 FPS on high settings. AMD also claims that Halo Infinite can run at up to 78 FPS, that Resident Evil Village can reach 108 FPS, and Call of Duty: Vanguard can hit 61 FPS (this is without any other information).
What makes this new AMD a great competitor in the market is the card’s extremely low price tag. It costs just $200, which is incredibly cheap, although it’s not likely to stay this low. Consumers have already had to pay a small markup from OEM manufactures, and that’s before prices skyrocket due to demand. The AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT is supposed to launch on January 19th.
