A UK fugitive was arrested after he left he place of hiding to purchase Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Clint Butler, a 36-year-old who escaped from HMP Spring Hill open prison, went to town to buy the game, when he ran into police.

Eurogamer reports that Butler broke lockdown rules while entering a city center to buy the game. Officers spotted him and a friend quickly change direction when they saw the police, and were asked for their identification. Butler proceeded to kick one officer and attempted to run. He was restrained and admitted he’d given them a false name.

Bulter had been serving a 17-year sentence for robbery and firearms, with a scheduled release ending in 2024. However, he escaped prison in November 2020, and the Thames Valley Police issued a warrant and told the public not to approach.

He’s received an additional 13 months in prison for the escape, as well as another six for assaulting officers.

Quite why he decided to risk being returned to prison by making the idiotic decision to come into town during lockdown with a friend to buy a video game will remain a bit of a mystery,” said police Superintendent Nick Rowe.
